Lucas is 82 years old.
“But the charges listed in the indictment reflect the alleged behavior of a public servant who put her own financial interests before the people she was elected to serve. Whether you are a Democrat or a Republican, an elected official or an everyday citizen, nobody is above the law.”

OCT 22 · Day 1
Virginia Democrat indicted on federal drug and money-laundering charges
Lucas was an architect of failed efforts in Virginia to redraw the state's congressional map.
The indictment alleges that on February 5, 2026, Lucas called an unindicted co-conspirator and discussed recreational marijuana legislation and the possibility of the co-conspirator receiving a license and sharing proceeds with her.
The indictment alleges Lucas was first elected to the Virginia Senate in 1991.
“Lucas and a close-knit group of family members and associates orchestrated a multi-year scheme to enrich their own criminal marijuana enterprise, ‘the Lucas Enterprise’ – using Lucas’ position as Chairwoman of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee to insulate the enterprise from criminal scrutiny and influencing legislation to financially benefit themselves.”
