House unanimously votes to eliminate the penny
The Common Cents Act would block the Treasury from minting any more pennies except for collector coins.
A previous bill led by McClain passed both the House and Senate directing the federal government to stop minting the penny but did not include language on rounding out cash payments.
The bill includes a provision allowing the U.S. Mint to produce nickels from cheaper material than currently used.
