US maternity wards face wave of closures as Medicaid cuts kick in
Centra Southside Community hospital and St Mary's Sacred Heart hospital both cited upcoming federal policy changes to Medicaid as a reason for closing their maternity wards.
The March of Dimes has identified 31 at-risk rural hospitals with labor and delivery services.
Benjamin Sommers said the changes to Medicaid would "absolutely" affect women who are pregnant and specialist pregnancy organizations.
