UK Prosecutors Seek Terrorism Sentences for Pro-Palestine Direct Action Activists
Four Palestine Action activists convicted of criminal damage at Elbit Systems' Filton site were sentenced as terrorists at Woolwich Crown Court.
The activists were protesting Barclays Bank's shareholdings in Israeli defence company Elbit Systems.
Brendon O’Hagan, Amanda Kelly, Hmeera Atiqnisar, Mohammed Malik, and Alma Yaniv were convicted in June of causing 212,000 pounds in damage to a Barclays Bank branch in Burnley in August 2024.
“We were on trial for charges of criminal damage, for damaging some windows and spraying red paint on a Barclays branch. At no point during the trial were we, or the jury, informed that, if convicted, we could face being sentenced as terrorists.”
