An independent candidate who campaigned primarily on opposition to Israel's genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza took nearly 19 percent of the vote in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency.

Zack Polanski told the Camden New Journal he would be the Green candidate for Holborn and St Pancras.

Starmer said on Tuesday that it was the right time to resign as the MP for Holborn and St Pancras after 11 years.

UK mayors granted powers to overrule local councils on planning

The new powers would apply to proposals with more than 150 homes, more than 15,000 square metres of commercial space or buildings over 30 metres.

Mayors in 13 areas will gain similar powers to Sir Sadiq Khan in London, who is already able to "call in" planning decisions.
