The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into whether Tesla's new self-driving Cybercab meets federal safety standards.

Tesla shares closed near $376 after a 5.4% jump on launch day, below the 52-week high near $499.

Tesla said users of its Tesla Robotaxi ride-hailing app could catch a driverless trip in a Cybercab within a geofenced area around Austin.
