Democrats demand DHS documents in investigation into Rohingya refugee's death
Tim Kennedy, Bennie Thompson, Lou Correa, and Nellie Pou held a press conference in Buffalo on Friday calling on DHS to cooperate with the Erie county district attorney's investigation.
Nurul Amin Shah Alam was a 56-year-old Rohingya refugee who lost much of his sight and spoke little English.
In June, Tim Kennedy introduced the DHS Release Transparency Act, which would require immigration authorities to notify a detainee's designated family member, attorney, or other contact before release and provide information about where the individual is being released.
