Puerto Ricans protest for reliable water access
The planned luxury development called Esencia is expected to consume more than a million gallons of water on the south-western tip of Puerto Rico.
Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nydia Velázquez stated that the water crisis is the result of federal neglect and mismanagement and rejected the governor's characterization that the situation is out of her hands.
Governor González-Colón said in August 2026 that the water situation is out of the government's hands.
