The PlayStation 5 Pro costs $900, up from its original price of $700.

Sony shipped 1.6 million PS5s in the most recent quarter, down 2.5 million from the same quarter the prior year.

PS5 owners cancel PlayStation Plus subscriptions to protest Sony discontinuing disc support

For third-party games sold digitally on the PlayStation Store, Sony keeps a 30% cut.

Sony's decision applies to all new PS5 games launched from January 2028 onwards.

Dr. Serkan Toto is the CEO of Japanese game industry consultancy firm Kantan Games.

“Around 50 million people subscribe to PlayStation Plus. As a thought experiment, let's say 500,000 cancel in protest, that would be just 1% of that business gone — of course not enough to Sony to start rethinking. Digital is just too lucrative.”

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima responds to Sony ending PlayStation physical discs

Sony removed the game Concord from users' libraries when it was 'unlaunched' in 2024.

Hideo Kojima said he finds it sad that PlayStation physical media production is ending in 2028 because he grew up with physical media.

Kojima tweeted in 2021 that even digital data will eventually no longer be owned by individuals on their own initiative.
