New Orleans Catholic church sex abuse settlement draws anger
Individual payouts are determined by a zero- to 100-point system in which rape equates to 75 points, oral or digital abuse equals 56 points, and grooming behavior equals 5 points.
The settlement is worth $305 million and was agreed to on December 8 by the archdiocese and its insurers to resolve a bankruptcy protection case opened in 2020.
About $56 million from the settlement was being held back for a time to account for successful appeals.
