Colorado judge clarifies class-wide injunction on NCAA age-based eligibility model
Judge Sweeney's initial ruling on Friday stated that all high school class of 2022 athletes who exhausted their fourth season of college eligibility this spring would be eligible for a fifth season in 2026-27.
The court clarified that athletes who were 20 or older at the start of their five years are not eligible per the injunction.
The NCAA stated in a letter to membership on Saturday that the ruling lacks the authority to undermine the House injunction.
“As the plain language of the preliminary injunction order and this order make clear, the Court’s injunction concerns only the implementation of the Rule (as defined in the preliminary injunction order) and any Bylaw that prohibits Plaintiffs and Class Members from competing in a fifth season of collegiate athletics.”
