Moderna and Merck announced that a personalised mRNA cancer vaccine called Intismeran reduced the risk of recurrence and spread of melanoma in a late-stage trial.
The development is the first positive late-stage trial result for an mRNA cancer vaccine.

Merck and Moderna cancer vaccine shows promise in melanoma recurrence prevention
Under Dr. Vinay Prasad, the FDA initially rejected Moderna's application for the mRNA-based flu vaccine but later reversed course.
In June, Merck and Moderna presented research at the American Society of Clinical Oncology's annual meeting showing the vaccine halved the risk of melanoma returning after five years in a group of 157 patients.
The late-stage study enrolled 1,137 patients who were randomized to receive either the vaccine-drug combo or Keytruda alone for about a year.
