Kylian Mbappé faces China backlash and sponsor fallout over viral meme

La Liga issued an official statement expressing deep regret over the hurt caused to Chinese fans by Mbappé's remarks.

Mbappé apologized in Chinese, French and English in a statement on X on Oct. 27.

A China Media Group representative said they would listen to Mbappé's words but watch his actions even more closely.

“Mbappé has all kinds of commercials, all kinds of billboards, all kinds of business interests all over China, including anything from cheese to soft drinks ... you name it, he's got a huge, huge presence in China. Well, that's all being threatened to go away, because as you know based on what happened with Daryl Morey and others, China doesn't take kindly to any kind of slur.”
