India to impose controversial fee for UPI instant payments
UPI processed a record 24.51 billion transactions in the month prior to the article's publication, averaging 791 million transactions per day worth more than $10 billion daily.
The government said UPI processed 241.6 billion transactions in the last financial year, worth nearly $3.3 trillion, supporting 741 banks.
Analysts estimated the new MDR will create an annual revenue pool of about 170 billion rupees, with about 60 percent going to banks, 25 percent to app providers, and 15 percent to aggregators.
