India's elections under unprecedented scrutiny
The Indian Express newspaper published an investigation reporting that the chief of India's Election Commission frequently overruled concerns raised by his two fellow commissioners about changes to the voter database.
The Election Commission relied on ECINet, a digital platform that logs nearly a billion voters, which was increasingly centralised under New Delhi's control.
The Election Commission has struck off more than 13 million names from the voters list since June of the previous year.
