Prior to her role in the White House, Overton was vice chair of the America First Policy Institute's (AFPI) Center for a Healthy America and its chief policy officer.
Overton is a physician who holds a doctorate from Johns Hopkins University.

The nomination would fill a vacancy left by former FDA commissioner Marty Makary, who resigned in May.
Overton appeared alongside Trump as he promoted "most favoured nation" drug pricing deals.
Before joining the Trump administration, Overton worked as chief policy officer at the America First Policy Institute.
