Nursing home fire in Chile kills 16 elderly residents
Pitrufquen Mayor Jacqueline Romero said the municipality sent a letter in February calling for an inspection because the facility was not in compliance with regulations.
Regional health official Jose Bravo said the facility had a history of regulatory problems dating back to 2019.
The nursing home fire occurred on a Friday and firefighters extinguished the flames early Saturday.
