Mark Walter's TWG Global says no fraud amid probe of insurers' disclosures

TWG Global said there has been no fraud at its companies despite media reports suggesting otherwise.

Federal criminal and civil investigations are examining the accounting and disclosures surrounding approximately $20 billion of financial transactions between two of Mark Walter's insurers and companies controlled by Walter and TWG.

After reviewing its affiliated- and related-party disclosures following the subpoenas, Delaware Life revised the share of its total invested assets classified as affiliated from 3% to 42%.

Mark Walter's TWG Global hires Goldman veteran Markowitz amid insurer probe

Markowitz was part of the Goldman Sachs team that negotiated settlements worth billions of dollars related to the 1MDB corruption scandal.

Walter acquired the Los Angeles Lakers in October 2025.

The probes are focused in part on Delaware Life Insurance Co. and its affiliate, Clear Spring Life and Annuity, two Group 1001 insurers ultimately controlled by Walter.

Los Angeles Dodgers Ownership Denies Fraud Allegations Regarding Financing

Reports indicate that at least $16 billion in loans are under investigation.

A $4.1 million loan was reportedly made by Delaware Life to Dodgers Tickets LLC and listed as unaffiliated.

Dodgers president Stan Kasten stated that the Dodgers are not up for sale and will not be sold.

“I understand the questions, I do. But as I said to you last time we met, the Lakers thing was what we lawyers call ‘sui generis.’ It was just one of those one-of-a-kind things that really has nothing to do with what’s happening with us.”

Carvana shares under pressure amid Mark Walter probe

Mark Walter indirectly controls CVAN Holdings LLC, which owned 8% of Carvana's Class B common stock as of March 10.

Mark Walter has agreed to sell the LA Lakers for $12.5 billion amid the federal probe.

A private consumer products company issued Carvana a warrant in June 2025 to purchase shares of its common stock, which Carvana valued at $1.5 million as of the end of 2025.

Carvana shares fall amid Mark Walter probe

Carvana is based in Tempe, Arizona, and its officials were not immediately available for comment.

Mark Walter is the chief executive officer of Guggenheim Partners, the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and controlling owner of the LA Lakers.

The Wall Street Journal reported that federal prosecutors and the SEC are investigating Mark Walter and businesses tied to his financial empire over whether financial relationships were concealed while more than $20 billion was routed through insurance companies he controls.
