Atlanta NHL comeback bid advances with new arena progress
The NHL had a presence in Atlanta from 1972 to 1980 with the Atlanta Flames before the team moved to Calgary.
The Alpharetta, Georgia city council voted 4-3 to approve the redevelopment of the North Point Mall into a mixed-use entertainment district featuring an arena capable of hosting an NHL team.
The proposal was led by real estate firm Jamestown for site owner New York Life, in partnership with real estate developer Machete Group.
