Severe Floods Cause Casualties and Destruction in Assam, India
Continuous rainfall between July 18 and July 20 inundated the Upper Assam region and the adjacent Naga Hills in Nagaland.
Assam cabinet minister Ranoj Pegu attributed the deluge to erratic rainfall caused by climate change.
According to data from Global Nature Watch, Nagaland lost 14 percent of its tree cover between 2002 and 2025.
“Trees as tall as 30 to 40 metres (100-130ft) came down from the hills, flooding the river, and wiped out everything as they crashed against our homes,”
