Haitian government calls for renewal of international anti-gang task force

An estimated 1,408 people were killed and 656 injured in Haiti between April and June of this year.

Haiti's upcoming general elections would be the first in a decade and are currently scheduled for December 13.

Armed groups have displaced more than one million people in Haiti since political instability heightened after the assassination of former President Jovenel Moise in 2021.

Haitian gangs release 13 captives after mass kidnapping in Kenscoff

In April, the first members of a UN-backed Gang Suppression Force arrived in Haiti to help dismantle the gangs and restore peace.

More than 50 people were kidnapped in the Kenscoff attack.

Armed men control an estimated 70% of Port-au-Prince along with areas of Haiti's central region and beyond.

The first deportation flight following the end of Temporary Protected Status for around 350,000 Haitians arrived on August 20 carrying over 160 people.

A gang leader is threatening to attack the Port-au-Prince neighborhood of Tabarre, where the U.S. embassy is located.

Haiti police confront public frustration after deadly gang attack kills 47

47 people were killed and more than 50 were kidnapped in a gang attack in Haiti last weekend.

The UN estimates that Kenscoff has suffered about a dozen gang attacks since last year.

Police spokesperson Garry Desrosiers said police cannot talk about any plans regarding the August 23 mass kidnapping.

Haiti gang raid death toll rises to 47, more than 50 kidnapped

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the attack.

A gang leader threatened Vladimir Paraison, director of the Haitian National Police, saying he would kill hostages if any of their soldiers were hurt.

The prime minister's office promised that Kenscoff will not be abandoned.

The first major attack on Kenscoff occurred in January 2025.

The gang member in the video identified himself as Izo 2, a reference to Izo, or Johnson André, one of Haiti's most powerful gang leaders.
