Alfalfa sprouts linked to food-poisoning outbreak in 15 states
In June 2025, the FDA sent a warning letter to Everything Sprouts identifying several points of concern from prior inspections.
Everything Sprouts said it had conducted daily tests since the outbreak began and had not received any positive lab results.
Of 34 sick people interviewed, 26 reported eating alfalfa sprouts, according to the FDA.
Alfalfa Sprouts Recalled Following Salmonella and E. Coli Outbreak
Everything Sprouts, LLC issued a voluntary recall of its 5-ounce containers of alfalfa sprouts distributed since May 27 due to potential contamination.
At least four people have been hospitalized in connection with the outbreak.
The reported illnesses comprise 46 people infected with E. coli, seven with salmonella, and two with both pathogens.
“During this outbreak we have tested our products daily and have not received any positive lab results. We continue to work closely with public health officials to investigate the source of this potential issue and will provide updates as they become available.”
Multistate E. coli and salmonella outbreak linked to alfalfa sprouts
The outbreak involves three strains of E. coli and one strain of salmonella.
Of the sickened individuals, 46 were infected with E. coli, seven with salmonella, and two with both pathogens.
No deaths have been reported from the outbreak.
