Dr Zivot said Christa Pike is the only known person to have survived a lethal injection.

Dr Zivot noted there remain many unknowns about Pike's condition and recovery, including how much pentobarbital entered her system.

Zivot had previously said the two doses of pentobarbital Pike received would have been enough to kill her had it entered her bloodstream normally.

“Most people who get lethal injection die from it,”

Dr Zivot told the BBC that the likelihood of recovering from lethal injection is low.
